What's New in Workplace? July 2022

All the latest Workplace product announcements and feature releases.

This month, we’re excited to share a slew of new features designed to make your Workplace experience even better. Read on to learn about messaging in the Workplace mobile app, improvements to plugins, access to post Insights for drafters and much more.
Messaging in the Workplace mobile app

Messaging in the Workplace mobile app

Until now, Workplace Chat was only available through a separate mobile app. With this release, we’re making messaging more accessible by bringing it into the Workplace application on iOS and Android.
With the new Workplace mobile app experience, you and the rest of your organization can access both company news and messaging in one place. This update is especially significant for frontline workers, who may not want to download multiple mobile apps on their personal devices.
For now, voice and video calling is not available in the Workplace mobile app. You can continue to use the Workplace Chat mobile app for voice and video calls.
Workplace system admins can opt in to the messaging in Workplace mobile app experience from the Admin Panel. When you opt in, anyone in your organization who doesn’t currently have the Workplace Chat app installed will be able to access messaging through their Workplace mobile app. Opting in will not affect anyone who already has the Workplace Chat app installed.
Improvements to plugins

Improvements to plugins

Plugins allow admins to share Workplace content to other internal websites and intranets. We’ve launched some exciting new updates to this feature.
For admins, new features include:
  • The ability to assign content sharing rights to other people in their Workplace. Those with content sharing rights can then share Workplace content to approved sites
  • More content types available to share in plugins, including singular posts and entire groups
  • The ability to allow sharing to any site, or specific sites only
  • The ability to pin a post to a plugin.
Users without content sharing rights can now:
  • Comment on Workplace posts while in the plugin
  • View plugins on their mobile devices

Better integration installation for content sharing integrations

Better integration installation for content sharing integrations

We’ve made improvements to the installation of integrations that share content from Workplace. Plugins can now be installed from a new tab in the Integrations page of the Admin Panel. The page includes information on how the integration works as well as screenshots so admins can see it in action.
Other content sharing integrations like Microsoft Teams can be installed and managed from the All integrations tab. We’ve also added a setup guide and screenshots to the Microsoft Teams integration details page to help admins get set up quickly.

To help you get a full picture of the reach of your internal communications, we’ve introduced a way to download a full list of people who have seen a post directly from post insights. This feature will be available for admins, post creators and drafters on desktop.

Auto-generated captions turned on by default

Auto-generated captions turned on by default

Auto-generated captions will be turned on by default for all uploaded videos in Workplace, and can be toggled on or off at any time. We’re making the process of captioning video content more seamless for creators, while making Workplace more accessible for the deaf and hard-of-hearing communities, as well as users who consume video with sound off.

Skip to the most relevant content on a page

Skip to the most relevant content on a page

We have now included a skip button that lets keyboard or screen reader users jump quickly to the main section of a page or the first post of a feed. This can be found at the top left corner of every page, after activating it with a keyboard press.
Preview your posts

Preview your posts

Users now have the ability to preview how their posts with images, text or video will look for their viewers. This will be especially useful for those who post long-form content and would like to visualize exactly how their post will appear in a viewer’s desktop or mobile feed.
Upload photos in high resolution by default

Upload photos in high resolution by default

We are enabling high resolution photo uploads by default for all users of the Workplace for iOS and Android apps. Because of this change, the Upload HD setting under Account settings → Videos is no longer needed and will be removed.
New updates to Events and Live video
